AWS › AWS Outposts & Hybrid Cloud

What AWS services are commonly available to run directly on an Outposts rack, and how consistent is the experience compared to the standard AWS cloud environment?

Answer

Outposts commonly supports running EC2 instances, EBS volumes, and certain container services like ECS and EKS locally, along with select database and other service options, using the exact same APIs, console, and tools you would use in the AWS cloud, providing a genuinely consistent experience for developers and operators, though the full breadth of every single AWS service available in a standard region is not available on Outposts hardware.

Real-world example A retail company running point of sale systems in each of its stores uses EC2 instances on a local Outposts rack, giving store level applications the same familiar EC2 experience developers already use for cloud based workloads elsewhere in the company.
